Making a Personalized Journal Using Natural Materials and Hand-binding Techniques
Workshop Summary
This workshop explores how creating one’s own journal out of natural materials can provide avenues into exploratory empowerment to create a reciprocal relationship with the surrounding world and therefore benefit a person on multiple levels.
Keeping a journal is one of the best activities one can do to reflect on life’s meanings and preserve the moments of your story. What’s even more exciting is creating that beautiful journal yourself and producing a one-of-a-kind work of art at the same time.
In this workshop, you will create a personalized soft-covered journal using natural materials and hand-binding techniques. The front and back cover will be cut and shaped from a soft wool trade blanket or soft bison and deer hide. A horn button will be sewn on the wool so the cover can fold over and stay closed when not in use. The pages will be from your choice of supplied paper.
The blank journal pages become potential for one’s relational connections and offer a place where mind, body, spirit, and soul can come together to form something wonderful.
This is a soft covered journal and very flexible. The finished product will have a rugged look which highlights the nature of the materials used. Finished size will be approximately 9.5 by 6.5 inches.
